The Sacramento Angels, together with the Sierra Angels, led a multi-million dollar financing for San Francisco web annotation startup company, Reframe It. They were joined by other regional angel groups and individual angels. VinPerfect won the 2008 UC Davis Big Bang Business Plan competition and the Sacramento Angels have added the company to its portfolio of investments.
VinPerfect offers a high-performance screw cap closure with a liner that allows winemakers to specify how much oxygen enters a wine bottle over time and, therefore, how their wine ages. The company will use the investors’ money to buy equipment and authenticate its package design and reliability.

Four years ago, at least two of our current and former members invested in NovaCal, developer of a very promising anti-microbial. It has changed its name to NovaBay Pharmaceuticals and secured an important strategic relationship with Alcon for eyecare products. It went public late last year. It is now traded on the Amex under the symbol NBY. The IPO price of $4.00 is reported to be 3.2X the adjusted investment price. For more information see the company website.
